"It's time for my annual Cotaco Metric ride! While I love the Gurley/Elora loop, this is probably my favorite ride in the area and I try to do it every year about this time. Last year, we talked a bit about doing it again in the fall, but by the time it right to schedule it again, I was off the bike. So I'm looking forward to this.
Starting from the Cotaco School (about 30 minutes from downtown), this metric does a nice loop through some of the backroads southeast of Huntsville. It has three climbs ... not full mountain climbs, but you will be challenged. There is a little steepness to them and one of them is probably a road only in name. But it's fun. And beautiful.
The one rest stop on the route is at the start/end of a smaller second loop as part of the route ... we'll roll by it at the 26 mile mark, then again for the official break at 36 miles after you complete the second climb (shortest of the three).
Last year, with the climbing involved, my average speed was ~17mph and I don't see much reason for this year to be different. Naturally some parts are faster, some slower. Find your pace and your group.
Weather on Saturday is looking good with a start maybe around 60 degrees before reaching a high for the day close to 80. Come on out and join a great ride with awesome people. We roll at 8am.
